(Re)installing Dial-up Networking with Windows 98/ME Operating Systems |

Step 1

Click Start >> Settings >> Control Panel.

Step 2

Find the icon called Network and Double Click on it to open it.

You should see a components listed under The following network components are installed:

Step 4

Start from the top of this list, click one time on the first component then click the Remove button to remove it from the list. Do this to each component until the whole box is blank. Once the box is completely empty click the OK button to close the Network control panel. If Windows asks you to restart your computer click NO.

You should now be back in Control Panel. Find the icon labeled Add/Remove Programs, Double click on it.

On the top of this windows you will see the Windows Setup tab, Click it once.

You will see a list in this box, Single left mouse button click on the word Communications, NOT the check box. Once highlighted click the button labeled Details...
|
Step 8

Uncheck the Box next to Dial-up Networking. Then click the OK button on the current window, then click Apply on the second window. Wait about 10 seconds.

Single left mouse button click on the word Communications, NOT the check box. Once highlighted click the button labeled Details...

Re-Check the box next to Dial-up Networking again. Click the OK button on the first box, and the OK button on the second box as well. At this point your computer will either start copying files to your computer or it will ask you to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM into the drive.

Step 11
|
Once it has finished copying it will tell you that your computer needs to be restarted before you can use dial-up networking or Direct cable connection. Click the OK button to return to the control panel.

Step 12

Find the Icon called Network and Double Click on it to open it.

Step 13

The new list under The following network components are installed should be:
- Microsoft Family Logon AND/OR Client For Microsoft Networks
- Dial-up Adapter
- TCP/IP
If your computer has these components in the The following network components are installed box, you can click the OK button to save your settings. You can now Restart your computer and you should be able to resume your internet browsing as normal. |
